End of year reflection animation

Image
My year in animation has been another good one. We had lots of fun and engaging products, and in this post I will be going over them and the strengths and weaknesses of each as well as a bit of the process.     The first project We worked on was an introduction to storyboarding in different forms, and how to tell a story using minimalism. Overall it was a fun project and it allowed me to fall back into the groove of animation. It was an easy project and the only weakness I would say is the soundtrack     The second project we worked on was our own choice. I chose to make a rotary scary story. I basically came up with an idea and storyboarded it. Then I went out and filmed the scenes using a camera From there I put it into photoshop and drew it from by frame, while changing the items that I wanted changed in the scene. I liked how it came out in the end, however it was not my favorite and that is due to a couple reasons. First, the background is to st...

Animation finals blog

This semester in animation I have worked with two things. first a bit of 3D animation then I transitioned over to more of 2D animation, mainly rotoscoping. In 3D animation we messed with mainly skeleton structures, so that way we could bring the creation to life with better movements than before. With rotoscoping I also worked on improving my skills with hat. With my first project being mediocre and then improving a bit with the second project. Here are the three projects I've done this semester and their descriptions.     The shark animation In this animation I used the skeleton structures to create a better moving shark than was possible without using it. It was a pretty easy process, however there was a bit of a struggle mapping out the points so that way they did not become affected through other points. This meant going into the program and messing with the streets of the joints affected movement of area. This took some time, however it helped me learn a lot and I feel...

Animation current

We have done two major projects in animation so far. I will be showing them and doing a quick runaround of them both.   1:  Shark animation. This is the first animation we did for the semester. It included rigging the "fish" that we created and making it move. I first created the fish, which I chose a shark. After doing that I then put a skeleton inside of it and rigged it so It could move.    The next project we did was the animation of choice.      2: I chose to plan out and create a take on me by aha styled animation. Doing frame by frame by hand.  will put pictures of each step below.  beginning animation.  idea page.  reference  drawings and ideas

Video final

Throughout the year in video i have made lots of projects, and had a good time. This blog is going over three of my works as well as the in and outs.       The first work as you can see was our parody music video. We took a song by Jacob Sutorious and dubbed it over George, who was the main actor. Overall it was very fun to make. It took us about four days to fill and edit all the clips. I didn't personally edit it, but I filmed for the project. A problem that we had was the lip syncing. When it was edited, it was done quickly and the lips didn't quite go with the words. Although we did learn about the importance of time management along the way, because we were scrambling to get our shots done before it turned to night. Overall though it was a fun project that a lot of pre production went into.     Next we have the Napoleon Dynamite trailer remake. Our task was to take a movie based off of high school and remake the trailer. It took us about a week to f...

End of year reflection( animation)

Image
This year has been truly amazing for me in e-comm. I discovered how much animation is to me, but not only that but special effects. I hope to continue my path down both and see where it takes me. We have a set of guarantees in the class that go: Technology, collaboration, , communication, project management, and leadership. I learned something from all of them.      From a technology standpoint, I learned so much. I learned the in and outs of animation, as well as special effects. I also learned how to navigate the programs that we use. One example of this would be the lighting effects in maya.  However , I cannot fit all have learned into a single blog. These skills will help me later in life because I hope to pursue a future career in animation. The main challenge of these learnings was probably memorization, which I'm still working on. Overall though I'm still improving and will continue to do so.      In  a sense of collabo...

The Plausible impossible

Image
In the world of animation, there is the power to make impossible things seem very plausible. This affect is achieved by taking real world scenes and possibly scenarios and then applying unreal scenarios to them. I will explain this by using the The Mountain, by Disney studios. In this film it takes a plausible scene, such as a mountain town, and adds a very impossible theme such as gouls. In this scene you notice one blaring thing first. The noose. The noose shows that this scene is taking place in around the 1800's and based upon the town itself it is the late 1800's after the first industrial revolution.  So that shows that it is a very plausible place an time, but thats when you notice the impossible. The ghosts flying around in the scene are not realistic at all.  In the next scene you can observe the plausible first, which is the night evening with a gentle breeze, which is likely as well as realistic. Then you can notice the ghosts riding what appea...

Take on me by Aha Professional Blog post review

The music video Take On Me by the band A-ha, is a very well done video as a whole. It is a video about a woman who is in a coffee shop reading a comic. She starts to notice how the comic is coming to life. A hand comes out of the comic book and reaches towards her. She takes it and is whisked away into the comic book world, and embarks on a journey with the lead singer. During this time they are animated and try to escape the men chasing them. I don't want to give away the whole story so i recommend watching it here . It is truly a great work, using the combination of tons of different shots to really tell a story. There is documented shots throughout it, but the main shot tends to be a mid shot or closeup, which works well with the story. One off the most interesting thing about this work is there fact that a majority of it is hand drawn animation. This aspect of the animation allows it to really take off as a unique work. If I could integrate any thing from this video in...

Video Production Overview

Image
Throughput my year so far in video, I have had truly a great time. I really enjoy the editing process of videos and plan on making some fun shorts in my own time. During my time in my class I have learned many things, and this is shown through my works, that I will be going over.     First Video we did was a PSA about a subject. I chose the subject of pushing in your chairs, and here was the result.     Overall it is a funny enjoyable video. It was fun to make and was a good introduction into the class. There was still flaws though that needed to be worked out while filming, such as camera angles and certain shots. There could have also been a better production value, and work on jump cuts. Although there were problems, it was my first project and it taught me a lot about shooting and editing. In the end it only took a day to create, so if I were to go back and re do it, I could do it better.     The next project I want to talk about is m...

Animation overview

Image
Throughout my semester in animation, I have learned many things and gone through some interesting things in the process. Overall I have enjoyed it and in this blog I will be going through some of my favorite projects and talking about them.     The first one I want to talk about is my castle.     I really enjoyed this project as a whole, because it was the first time that I really dwelled into the 3D aspect of animation. Although it wasn't an animation necessarily, it was still lots if fun and would later help with my actual 3D animation. Overall it was fun and taught me about divisions and the basics of 3D modeling. If I could change anything then I would add more, like a tree and also a draw bridge. In the end I don't think I will forget this project because all it taught me about 3D modeling.     My next project is my walk cycle.     This animation really taught me a lot of important aspects in 2D animation. I really enj...

Professional Project Review Post

Image
There are many talented people in the world who tend to make their work visible to the public. My task for this blog was to find one of these people and take what they are working on and review it. For this blog in particular I have chosen Vlad Konstantinos as my subject.  He does a lot of great 3D work, but I am focusing on his Gorgosaurus 3D model.     The scope/ explanation of this project is pretty self explanatory, It is really a model of a Gorgosaurus, now there is some interesting things about the model though. It is very well done with a high attention to detail, plus the dinosaur has battle wounds that are very well done and anatomically calculated. In his post, which can be found here , he shows the beast in multiple colored forms also. He shows it in a sort of green/ grey coloration, as well as a red/ grey coloration. He also has the model form of it without any color added. All in all it is truly an amazing project with attention to detail. ...

Article Review

John Branch, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize, is a wonderful writer who doesn't leave anything unturned, and truly makes you feel the subjects emotions. In his feature story he highlights the tale of a group of skiers who experience the horror of an avalanche. The author argues throughout the article that it is a terrifying experience, but if you take the right steps you can increase your odds of survival.  Going off of that he also argues how avalanches aren't something that is a rare anomaly, one can happen any time. He argues this by stating through a story how gear is an important part, and there is even a whole section for which they gear up. The argument of avalanches is further argued by showing how easy the conditions are to reproduce, using a graphic. The graphics and evidence are very well executed, adding to the professional look of the article.  The strength of this article is for sure its detail and explanation. Nothing is left untold as he details th...

What makes a good feature story?

A feature story is a video that is meant to tell a story while creating emotion about the subject, either happiness, sadness, or anger. However you can not get that emotion if the video isn't up to par with the story, so the question comes, how can you make  a good feature story?     In order to make a good feature story first you need good questions. Without the right questions the  video will seem split up and divided, as well as draw attention away from the story itself. So after you have the right questions(for an interesting topic), make sure you record the interview with a high quality camera and mike, so that way it looks professional. Also make sure to get lots of b-roll of the topic, so that way if you do a voiceover, you can have that footage for the background. When shooting all footage, it is important to have good lighting. If you have good lighting it will make the video more appeasing to view, and draw in more attention. When shooting th...

Project(animation)

Image
In exploring animation we have been working on animations that were supposed to have three scenes, a walk cycle and more, and it is supposed to be able to tell a story. Now I started with a story board, and I accidentally threw it away during cleaning, so I will just have to explain it to you. In my first panel I had a knight who is running towards a cave. He then arrives at the cave and enters it. After he enters it a Dragon rises up and then blows fire. The scene then cuts to black and the knight is leaving the cave with gold in a bag heading home. Now in the final it did change image wise, but it was for the better, as the dragon has a better feel than the one in the story board.  After I had finished the story board I worked on images.  Some of the images aren't finished because the finals are on a flash drive at home.     First I have a knight, who is the main character, and each limb is movable.     Then I have the dragon, but ...

Feature story experience

Image
I recently have completed a feature story over my subject named Zach Plass. Zach was adiment about the sport of airlift and usually plays every weekend. If you want to learn more about Zach and his activity make sure to check out the video which is located at the bottom of this post. On that note I have decided to write up some things about the process the experience, and the video itself.     First I want to start off by talking about the narration and how it affected the video. I shot and edited and recoded the narration of the video, so I have seen this video during the whole process. So that means that i have seen the video before the narration, because I recorded the narration after I put together the video. Before I put the narration together the shots and images were pleasing, but it just didn't seem full without it. After I added the narration it filled up and brought new life to the video. It also brought a warmness and understanding to the story...
