Video Production Overview

Image
Throughput my year so far in video, I have had truly a great time. I really enjoy the editing process of videos and plan on making some fun shorts in my own time. During my time in my class I have learned many things, and this is shown through my works, that I will be going over.     First Video we did was a PSA about a subject. I chose the subject of pushing in your chairs, and here was the result.     Overall it is a funny enjoyable video. It was fun to make and was a good introduction into the class. There was still flaws though that needed to be worked out while filming, such as camera angles and certain shots. There could have also been a better production value, and work on jump cuts. Although there were problems, it was my first project and it taught me a lot about shooting and editing. In the end it only took a day to create, so if I were to go back and re do it, I could do it better.     The next project I want to talk about is m...

Animation overview

Image
Throughout my semester in animation, I have learned many things and gone through some interesting things in the process. Overall I have enjoyed it and in this blog I will be going through some of my favorite projects and talking about them.     The first one I want to talk about is my castle.     I really enjoyed this project as a whole, because it was the first time that I really dwelled into the 3D aspect of animation. Although it wasn't an animation necessarily, it was still lots if fun and would later help with my actual 3D animation. Overall it was fun and taught me about divisions and the basics of 3D modeling. If I could change anything then I would add more, like a tree and also a draw bridge. In the end I don't think I will forget this project because all it taught me about 3D modeling.     My next project is my walk cycle.     This animation really taught me a lot of important aspects in 2D animation. I really enj...

Professional Project Review Post

Image
There are many talented people in the world who tend to make their work visible to the public. My task for this blog was to find one of these people and take what they are working on and review it. For this blog in particular I have chosen Vlad Konstantinos as my subject.  He does a lot of great 3D work, but I am focusing on his Gorgosaurus 3D model.     The scope/ explanation of this project is pretty self explanatory, It is really a model of a Gorgosaurus, now there is some interesting things about the model though. It is very well done with a high attention to detail, plus the dinosaur has battle wounds that are very well done and anatomically calculated. In his post, which can be found here , he shows the beast in multiple colored forms also. He shows it in a sort of green/ grey coloration, as well as a red/ grey coloration. He also has the model form of it without any color added. All in all it is truly an amazing project with attention to detail. ...

Article Review

John Branch, a winner of the Pulitzer Prize, is a wonderful writer who doesn't leave anything unturned, and truly makes you feel the subjects emotions. In his feature story he highlights the tale of a group of skiers who experience the horror of an avalanche. The author argues throughout the article that it is a terrifying experience, but if you take the right steps you can increase your odds of survival.  Going off of that he also argues how avalanches aren't something that is a rare anomaly, one can happen any time. He argues this by stating through a story how gear is an important part, and there is even a whole section for which they gear up. The argument of avalanches is further argued by showing how easy the conditions are to reproduce, using a graphic. The graphics and evidence are very well executed, adding to the professional look of the article.  The strength of this article is for sure its detail and explanation. Nothing is left untold as he details th...

What makes a good feature story?

A feature story is a video that is meant to tell a story while creating emotion about the subject, either happiness, sadness, or anger. However you can not get that emotion if the video isn't up to par with the story, so the question comes, how can you make  a good feature story?     In order to make a good feature story first you need good questions. Without the right questions the  video will seem split up and divided, as well as draw attention away from the story itself. So after you have the right questions(for an interesting topic), make sure you record the interview with a high quality camera and mike, so that way it looks professional. Also make sure to get lots of b-roll of the topic, so that way if you do a voiceover, you can have that footage for the background. When shooting all footage, it is important to have good lighting. If you have good lighting it will make the video more appeasing to view, and draw in more attention. When shooting th...

Project(animation)

Image
In exploring animation we have been working on animations that were supposed to have three scenes, a walk cycle and more, and it is supposed to be able to tell a story. Now I started with a story board, and I accidentally threw it away during cleaning, so I will just have to explain it to you. In my first panel I had a knight who is running towards a cave. He then arrives at the cave and enters it. After he enters it a Dragon rises up and then blows fire. The scene then cuts to black and the knight is leaving the cave with gold in a bag heading home. Now in the final it did change image wise, but it was for the better, as the dragon has a better feel than the one in the story board.  After I had finished the story board I worked on images.  Some of the images aren't finished because the finals are on a flash drive at home.     First I have a knight, who is the main character, and each limb is movable.     Then I have the dragon, but ...

Feature story experience

Image
I recently have completed a feature story over my subject named Zach Plass. Zach was adiment about the sport of airlift and usually plays every weekend. If you want to learn more about Zach and his activity make sure to check out the video which is located at the bottom of this post. On that note I have decided to write up some things about the process the experience, and the video itself.     First I want to start off by talking about the narration and how it affected the video. I shot and edited and recoded the narration of the video, so I have seen this video during the whole process. So that means that i have seen the video before the narration, because I recorded the narration after I put together the video. Before I put the narration together the shots and images were pleasing, but it just didn't seem full without it. After I added the narration it filled up and brought new life to the video. It also brought a warmness and understanding to the story...

Organizing video clips in adobe

Image
In adobe Premiere pro, organization is key for making long videos, luckily for you I am here to show you good organization techniques. First what you want to do is go to the bottom right of your screen where your videos are stored once you import them      Then after you do that you want to find the folder on the bottom right of this area.     If you click on that folder9not the folded piece of paper, then it should create a new bin in that video area.      Once you have completed all that and have your clips ready, just drag and drop them into the folder.     Once the items you like are in the folder then you can double click on it to open it, and all the videos you put into the folder should be there for you to work with.        In order to rename it all you have to do is double click on the name(which is by default Bin).    Then just rename it and press return or enter.     Hope th...

1 in 2000

Image
In e-comm class we had to interview someone under the alias of a reporter for NPR news, doing a report for the 1 in 2000 challenge. I interviewed the student Reece Krall, who is a ONW student, as well as a friend of mine. Reece plays the drums and is a high achieving student. I was very interested to interview him, and what came out if the interview was the fact that over his summer break, he played video games.     The voiceover aspect of the project was a little tough for me. It was not hard because of the voiceover itself but mainly because I'm not passionate about interviewing, I prefer making fun videos for everyone to enjoy and have a good laugh, I didn't really get that in my interview. So making it wasn't the hard at all, it was just the fact that my heart wasn't in it.     Shooting the video was fun but there were difficulties in the process. The first time we shot, it was really good material, but none of the audio files were there while i w...

Safety Video, Push in your chairs

Image
For this project, we E-comm students were tasked to make a video that could show a safety tip for the students to follow and respect. My group and I chose to make a video about pushing in your chairs. Not following this rule is a safety hazard and just overall annoying for the next person. In order to make this project a reality we had to take steps to get there. First we wrote a story board over what we want to happen in the video. Ours included a man sitting at a table who leaves and forgets to push in his chair, then another man runs up and stops him and forces him to push in his chair. After being satisfied with this we started filming. The beginning starts off with a man sitting at a table who forgets to push in his chair as he leaves after getting up.  Then after he leaves a man notices that he failed to push in his chair, he chases after him and forces him to come back.   After he makes him come back and push in the chair, after a quick thanks from our spo...

Spray on Clothes project

Image
Hello my name is Evan Mayo, and recently I have been working on a project for e-comm. This project was a collaborative project between me and three other people. We were a team but we never came up with a name, so we just stuck with the name of Team 6. As a collaborative group we decided to make a product for part of our final. This product ended up being Spray on clothes. I was mainly responsible for two things during this project, the coupon and also the 3D animated Spray on Clothes can. Here is the animation and also the coupon. There are my contributions to the project. Hope you enjoy them. I think if I had to change something, it would deffinently be the animation, I would have spent more time on detail and also work on the lighting a little more. I would not say there were any major problems though, everything went pretty smooth. Although the project is not perfect, I believe that I have deffinetnly improved by a-lot. At the beginning of the year i didn't kno...
